It has two accessible panels featuring a Protective Deity at the centre and at the bottom a Capala i.e. inverted skull cup with offerings and two skulls representing wisdom. The borders have fine carved works.

Two long arrow shaped hinges run vertically at the sides of the chest. The four corners has painted colorful scroll works and the borders has arrow shaped metallic hinges.

Finely carved floral and foliage patterns can be seen on the book cover and at one side it has the Zeepag mythical protector animal head carved.

340.Tibetan Mahakala Door Set

A early 19th century Tibetan Mahakala Door Set from Kham (eastern) region of Tibet. The central theme of the Door Set is a beautifully painted Mahakala ie Protector Deity on a red background. Sacrificial offerings of human senses are also painted at the top part of the main Frame so as to bring awareness and conscience in Humans. There are two mythical animal Snowlions on both the sides of the main frame and the auspicious symbols like the Victory Banner, Fish, Conch Shells, Endless Knot, Flaming Jewels of Wisdom, etc painted on the Door Frame to Keep the Deity Pacified and at Peace and Calm so as to take its PROTECTOR FORM. There are paintings of Capala (ritual object ie. skull cup with offerings). Two Yak animal seen at the bottom of the Door Frame with other animals like tiger, bird of prey, snow leopard and wild cat holding offerings on their mouth to please the Deity. The frame of the door set has beautifully painted skulls depicting wisdom and vines. The beam of the door set has carved fine patterns on it. At the bottom it has high mountains and waves painted on it depicting the high status of the possessor of this beautiful door set. Mineral pigments used for colors.
