46. Tibetan Peacock Chest

A beautiful 19th century Chest from Tibet featuring a painted Peacock bird at the centre spreading its feathers in a dancing mode. The four corners have butterflies painted on a red background. It’s very unique chest as the theme is vey uncommon to have a Peacock and butterflies as the central theme. Chest were offered by rich affluent Tibetans to Monasteries in Tibet to safe keep Ritual objects and texts. It was also used in private homes to keep personal belongings. Mineral pigments used for colors.
